چکیده

Recent congestion control protocols such as XCP and RCP achieve fair bandwidth sharing, high utilization, small queue sizes and nearly zero packet loss by implementing an explicit bandwidth share mechanism in the network routers. This paper develops new quantitative techniques for achieving the same results using only end-host measures. We develop new methods of computing bottleneck link characteristics, a new technique for sharing bandwidth fairly with Reno flows, and a new approach for rapidly converging to bandwidth share. A new transport protocol, TCP-Madison, that employs the new bandwidth sharing techniques is also defined in the paper. Experiments comparing TCP-Madison with FAST TCP, BIC-TCP and TCP-Reno over hundreds of PlanetLab and other live Internet paths show that the new protocol achieves the stated bandwidth sharing properties, is easily configured for near-optimal performance over all paths, and significantly outperforms the previous protocols. c © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Performance of Multi-beam Satellite Systems With A New Bandwidth Sharing Algorithm

An efficient resource allocation is important to guarantee the best performance with a fair distribution of multi-beam satellite capacity to provide satellite multimedia and broadcasting services. In this way, available bandwidth and capacity problems in new satellite system likes Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO), exploring new techniques for enhancing spectral efficiency in satellite communicat...

Jointly power and bandwidth allocation for a heterogeneous satellite network

Due to lack of resources such as transmission power and bandwidth in satellite systems, resource allocation problem is a very important challenge. Nowadays, new heterogeneous network includes one or more satellites besides terrestrial infrastructure, so that it is considered that each satellite has multi-beam to increase capacity. This type of structure is suitable for a new generation of commu...

Adaptive token bucket algorithm for fair bandwidth allocation in DiffServ networks

We propose an adaptive token bucket algorithm for achieving proportional sharing of bandwidth among aggregate flows in differentiated service (DiffServ) networks. By observing the simulation results obtained in a study of the throughput of TCP flows in a DiffServ network, we note that the aggregate flow with a lower target rate occupies more bandwidth than its fair share, while the aggregate fl...

Help Me Help You: Using Trustworthy Host-Based Information in the Network

As hardware support for improved endhost security becomes ubiquitous, it is important to consider how network security and performance can benefit from these improvements. If endhosts (or at least portions of each endhost) can be trusted, then network infrastructure no longer needs to arduously and imprecisely reconstruct data already known by the endhosts. Through the design of a general-purpo...

vPFS: Bandwidth Virtualization of Parallel Storage Systems

This paper presents vPFS, a new parallel file system performance management approach to support the allocation of shared storage bandwidth on a per-application basis. Existing parallel file systems are unable to differentiate I/O requests from different applications and meet per-application bandwidth requirements. This limitation presents an increasing hurdle for applications to achieve their d...
